My name is Jordan Powers and I am the host of the Hashtagged Podcast. In addition to being the host of this show, I am a husband, a father, and a photographer based just south of Minneapolis / St. Paul, MN.

I grew up in Toledo, OH and after graduating high school in 1998, I went to school for audio engineering because I was very much interested in recording music at the time – specifically my own music. After completing that schooling, I worked in a commercial studio in downtown Toledo where I learned Photoshop (Version 3!), video production, and audio production. In the early 2000’s, I started dabbling in wedding videography and short filmmaking with my friends.

It wasn’t until 2005 when I picked up my first DSLR and within a year was photographing weddings and portraits regularly, but photography in general became my passion.

in 2008, my wife and I were married and within a year we relocated to Minnesota with my job and have been here ever since. I officially stopped advertising weddings and portraits and began my photography career as an interiors and architecture photographer in 2011 – photographing about 90% real estate, and 10% commercial architecture. In 2013, I started a video production company dedicated to storytelling – specifically for small businesses in Mankato, MN.

You can find me on Instagram @jrdnpwrs – and hear more of my story on EPISODE 50.

I have been a podcast junkie for the last 6 years.  I listen to a wide variety of podcasts ranging from business podcasts to comedy.  The year or so prior to starting the podcast, I toyed around with the idea of starting one of my own – but I didn’t know where to start.  With a little guidance from the leaders in the podcasting community, I was able to narrow down my own niche based on some of my passions.

While I wanted to somehow talk about photography, I knew that there are/were a countless amount of photography shows out there so I had to really narrow it down.  Looking at my phone’s battery and data usage, my most often used app is Instagram – I love this app.  I also really love meeting and learning from new people – especially ones who inspire me.

These are the 3 pillars of this podcast.  Photography, Instagram, and People – but the foundation that these pillars stand on is community. Community is the one thing that I feel separates Instagram from the crowd.  It isn’t just an app, or a social network, or a micro-blog. Behind it all is the sense of community – at least the way I see it.

I wanted to bring a different approach to this community that has not been done – through a podcast.

1. 99% transparency.  While there are some things that just can’t (or shouldn’t) be shared, you will always have access to the answers for the majority of your questions. I will always disclose as much as possible about decisions we make for the direction of this podcast – and I welcome your input.

2. No spam. Our first priority is community. Second is sustainability.  This is a for-profit venture, but I will always deliver FREE content.  I will have sponsors and advertisers, but I will do everything I can to ensure that these products, brands, and services are such that I think would be a good fit for everyone listening. Anything contributed through Patreon will go toward covering advertising, and any other costs associated with running this show – those funds will not go into my pocket. I will also not email or post things that I don’t consider potentially valuable to the community.

3. The best possible production. I will always deliver the best production within my means. I take pride in the quality of this show, and made a commitment right from the beginning that I would invest the time and available funds to make this show the best possible. My hope is to continue to increase the value of this show as time goes on.
