These six blocks are not the only new blocks added to the game with version 1.8, as players can expect to find Barriers and Slime Blocks as well. Version 1.8 is changing the way difficulty works in Minecraft, as now difficulty will be set per world; there will no longer be a global difficulty level in Minecraft as of version 1.8.
